    Holi-daze

‘Sup y’all! I am sitting in a fantastic coffee shop in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This is the first time I’ve had a break from my family in almost a week, yikes! That got me thinking about this Christmas and how it went and reflecting on years to come. I’ve been thinking about you all here in the states and also in Slovakia quite a bit- especially because I might spend next Christmas in Trnava and I’m sure things will be a bit different.

Sooo, what’s a unique holiday tradition you or your family do? Whether in US or SK? You Slovaks out there, what are some major differences in the way we celebrate the holidays? Do you think it’s quite as commercialized?

Well this year was unique because every one of my siblings/step-siblings were together. My mom was so thrilled that she bought us all Christmas t-shirts and we had to take a family picture. Ha! Good times.  Take care everyone, and have a GREAT New Years!!

    Cause and Effect

We talk a lot about cause and effect.  We especially notice causes when the cause is really small compared with the event that happens because of it.  Like the wildfires in California right now were apparently started at some party.  It only takes a spark and all that….

Or, check out this game, which is a pretty good visual aid for thinking about cause and effect.

So what are some causes and effects in your life?  What really caused them?  Sometimes it’s hard to think about causes of causes, but it’s pretty fun sometimes.

     Peace out,

    Thanksgiving and stuff

So we’re between our Thanksgiving Parties and I’ve been thinking a lot about thankfulness.  We have a lot to be thankful for, even when we don’t see it.  I was watching the news this morning about what’s going on in Pakistan; how the government is repressing freedom of speech and being pretty totalitarian.  Same thing in Myanmar.  And countless other countries.  But here I sit, in my warm apartment, typing on the internet about what I think.  For anyone to read.  And I’m not going to be arrested because of it.  That’s pretty awesome if you ask me.

So what things are you thankful for?  Theoretically this list could go on forever.  But give it a try!

    peace,

    Thoughts on Authenticity

Last Friday night we had Intro here at the Building.  Sorry there’s no pictures, the camera we took all the pictures with is now in America with Miriam… oh well, look for them in a couple of weeks.

Anyway, the theme for the night was “Authenticity.”  It got me thinking about a lot of things; mostly about the importance of being an authentic person and being truthful with other people.

I think it’s hard to live in this world and ignore the constant pull to be a different person depending on who you’re with.  I thought the skit on Friday night showed this very well.  So, the question is: in what ways do you see yourself as authentic?  In what ways are you inauthentic?

I know for me I really worry about what other people will think of me, so sometimes I act differently or say things differently than I do with other people.  I know this isn’t right; it’s not how I was made to be.

Oh well.  Just some stuff to think about.

     Peace out,

    bo

    Halloween Parties

So it’s officially November (the 7th, anyway) and we’ve already had our two Halloween parties for the year.  They were a lot of fun, and we were glad to have everyone there.  I hope I didn’t cause anyone to hate clowns…

If you want, you can check out pictures back on the Building main page; click on “Photos.”

This Friday night we have Intro, starting at 7.  The theme will be  “Authenticity.”  So please come, we’ll be open for all ages!
